digades team researches energy-saving and high-resolution OLED microdisplays

Sunday, 1st March 2020

In cooperation with GLOBALFOUNDRIES Dresden, Module One LLC & Co. KG and Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Angewandten Forschung e.V., digades is currently researching a solution for energy-saving and high-resolution OLED microdisplays and quality cameras. These could be used in driver assistance systems through to autonomous driving, gesture control, lifestyle products and for civil security purposes.

The aim is to implement an ultra-low-power microdisplay backplane architecture into a deep-submicron CMOS process, thus significantly reducing the previously predominant space requirement of the memory elements for static RAM (SRAM), which allows a higher pixel density and thus colour image reproduction with the same extremely low power consumption. This technology will be applied in a head-up display for motorcyclists.
